CHARLENE SORAIA
Beautiful songwriter, singer and guitarist that we saw at a small London festival this summer.
…SIMPLY… I was concieved in a hospital store room and brought up listening to David Bowie, Bob Marley and Bob Dylan… I got my first guitar when I was 7, though my mother reckons I was 5, and started playing open mic nights when I was 8… I continued to do so untill I turned 16 and went to Brit School whereapon I met a crazy drummer and a ginger guy… I wrote some tunes, brought them forward to the “band” and we called ourselves Retrospect… I neglected my solo music and personal progression which is why I’m here!
I recently opened the iTunes Live London Sessions @ Air Studios and played alongside Jose Gonzales, Stephanie Dosen and Julian Velard.

SPEAKERS CORNER QUARTET
The Speakers Corner Quartet began their life as the house band for the UK’s leading Open Mic event Speakers Corner in the heart of London’s culture capital, Brixton. The Combination of Drums, Double Bass, Cello & Flute that the Quartet embody makes for a deeply unique audio-visual experience. This coming from an outfit with its roots entrenched in Hip Hop music & culture coupled with each member’s ability as prolific Jazz & Classical players greatly emphasizes a fantastic cross genre appeal with a contemporized yet frenetic feel & energy.

EL CRISIS

El Crisis’ style of poetry and performance is truly unique. He combines a hypnotic mixture of rap, spoken word power and chant. He speaks from a height, the knowledge of an ancient mystic wisdom and a spiritual connection with his ancestors that can be felt among his audiences. His reality does not end in the spiritual. Crisis raps sings chants and recites spoken word poetry relating his experiences stories, street style philosophy and viewpoints of the world and society today. Combined with an angelic voice of staggering range and depth, Crisis’ performances are enlightening, extraordinary and unforgettable. He has performed extensively across the UK, and has grown from open mic nights, to performing in Theatrical productions and national tours. He also performs internationally with performances from New York, Philadelphia, Amsterdam, Norway and Poland. Crisis is as an inspirational force in today’s spoken word scene. He has built himself a reputation for being one of the most unique and dynamic voices in poetry. He made his debut performance in the Soul of Black folks Bar in Brixton Coldharbour lane, year 2000, describing his poetry as ” Word Power and Sound,” Words delivered with Power carrying a rhythmic Sound. Crisis now works in schools, prisons, art galleries, colleges, Universities, clubs and festivals across England.
plus… THE MOULETTES
Making their OneTaste debut this month, the Moulettes are a folk-stomping barn-storming swingin’ quintet: An orchestra of absurdity featuring cello, bassoon, guitars, violin, viola, autoharp, kazoo, trombone, drums & 5-part harmonies! Their songs are narrative driven alliterative epics of depravity, decadence and delirious devastation, and they deliver a rollicking, resounding live set when called upon.
They are part of the Southampton-based co-operative label, Sotones and we are surely to witness a storming show when they play in the Globe in a couple of weeks. Ooh! What fun!!
and A F HARROLD
A F Harrold, a favourite a OneTaste in 2007, to give us another brilliant dose of eccentricity. (from his myspace…)A. F. Harrold is a performance poet of unimaginable imagination which sometimes makes things awkward, especially in social situations. But, heigh ho, eh? If life were simple it wouldn’t be a Rubik’s Cube.
